Goethe affirmed that only what is written about is known. In a sense, the main purpose of this work was to meet a great classic, and it seemed that the most appropriate way to do it was to make the best of his compatriot. The work presented is divided into two parts. The first, which deals with biographical aspects, is divided into three sections: the first years of Savigny"s university life in the cities of Marburg and Landshut (the years of his youth until 1810), his years of teaching in Berlin (1810-1842) and, finally, his occupation as Minister of Legislation and the years of his vital sunset (1842-1862). The second part begins with a brief critical description of the most recognized secondary literature. This is a good basis from which to rebuild the idea of system, central axis of this book. To this end, he begins by analyzing the concepts of relationship and legal institute which, according to Savigny, are the ones that structure the system. Secondly, a cross-cutting and relatively novel analysis of the idea of a system that pivots on the ideas of legal facts and fictions is proposed. The work is concluded with final reflections.
